Akelco general manager retires

KALIBO, Aklan – Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) general manager Engineer Alexis Maypa Regalado announced his retirement, surprising cooperative officials and employees.

Akelco is the sole power distributor in Aklan and northern Antique (Pandan and Libertad towns).

Regalado submitted a retirement letter to Akelco board president Wayne Malilay on May 3.

Akelco board secretary Atty. Ariel Gepty said they would deliberate Regalado’s retirement letter on May 7 – that is, whether to accept it or not.

“There is no truth to rumors that Regalado was preventively suspended. There was no administrative complaint against him in the National Electrification Administration or Akelco board,” Gepty stressed.

Regalado designated Human Resources Officer Josephine Prado as acting general manager before taking a leave of absence last week.

NEA Memorandum 2017-035 issued on Oct. 24, 2017 on the selection, hiring, termination of services/suspension for general managers, designates a department manager as acting general manager.

“The appointment of Prado (as acting manager) is status quo. Rest assured our electric consumers and the general public, in any situation and circumstance, are prioritized,” Gepty stressed.

Prior to his appointment as general manager, Regalado was a construction division manager of Akelco.

He had been with the electric cooperative for more than 30 years./PN
