KALIBO, Aklan — Senior Superintendent Iver Apellido, new Aklan provincial police chief, asked the public to support the programs of the local police.

Apellido, formally assuming the post on Sept. 12, replaced Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, who was reassigned to the regional headquarters.

He held his first command conference with chiefs of police in the province, including the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center, on Sept. 13 at Camp Pastor Martelino in Barangay New Buswang here.

The success of police programs, especially the fight against crimes, relies on the community’s support and cooperation, Apellido stressed.

He vowed to implement the Philippine National Police Integrated PATROL System to enhance crime prevention and solution efficiency.

He also directed the police chiefs to actively put up checkpoints and chokepoints and hold foot and mobile patrols to strengthen visibility.

Apellido also warned his men against engaging in illegal activities, including going to cockpits.

On top of these, he said they will intensify their anti-illegal drug campaign, including drug information drives in barangays and schools.

Prior to his assignment in Aklan, Apellido headed the Regional Public Safety Company as battalion commander.

He was also assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding Office of the Police Regional Office 6 and as deputy of the regional Police-Community Relations office.

A native of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Apellido has also been assigned at police stations of Bago and La Carlota cities in Negros Occidental, and Silang, Cavite. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
