KALIBO, Aklan – The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) is strictly monitoring four towns in the province wherein there are intense political rivalries.
These towns are Lezo, Malinao, Banga and Buruanga, according to APPO head Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay Jr.
Cambay said they are all set to ensure the “honest, fair and credible” conduct of the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections today.
There are 1,137 polling precincts in 328 polling centers in Aklan.
On Friday, APPO deployed 827 police personnel to ensure peace and order in these polling centers.
“We won’t take any chances. We have police forces to secure the areas, even though, there are barangays with no opposing candidates,” Cambay said after the send-off rites at Camp Pastor Martelino in this capital town.
Records from the Commission on Elections showed that there are 499,734 registered voters in Aklan, 138,380 of them are SK voters.
Voting will start 7 a.m. today and will end at 3 p.m.
Prior to election day, Cambay urged the chiefs of police in Aklan to conduct day-to-day assessments in barangays.
At least two police personnel will man security desks near the voting centers. There will also be a quick reaction team in the polling areas.
“Mataas ang confidence level ng kapulisan to ensure safe, honest, credible, and peaceful barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections,” Cambay said. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
