KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Aklan is expecting 137,168 or more enrollees this school year.
Acting Assistant School Division Superintendent Jose Niro Nillasca said 135,025 elementary and secondary school students have already enrolled as of Sunday.
“The number however may still increase as many schools in the province are still accepting students until Friday this week,” Nillasca added.
Classes in public elementary and secondary schools in the country resumed yesterday.
A total of 115,170 students have been in enrolled in public schools in Aklan this year, while 19,570, in private schools.
Nillasca said some 286 students in the province are enrolled in non-graded schools.
DepEd is also expecting a decrease in the number of students in Boracay amid the ongoing island closure.
“Prior to the opening of classes, we already received reports that many students in Boracay have already secured their class cards, which are an indication that they will transfer to different schools outside Boracay,” Nillasca said./PN
