AKLAN basketball team moved closer to a finals seat in the 2019 Guimaras Basketball Pocket Tournament after winning their first two matches on Saturday afternoon.
The Aklanons opened their campaign with an 84-50 domination over host Guimaras at the Guimaras State College Covered Gym.
Johndel Alfaro finished with 15 markers for Aklan.
The Aklanons followed this up with another victory later in the day when it edged Iloilo City, 82-74, at the Sibunag Gym.
Kendrick Basid top-scored with 23 markers for the winning team.
Aklan still has a game remaining in its elimination round schedule against Antique and a victory there will advance them in the knockout championship still being played as of press time.
Antique and Guimaras, meanwhile, are tied at 1-1 and still have a shot at a championship seat, while the Iloilo City is already out of contention after dropping its first two matches.
Antiquenos cruised to an 84-69 domination over the Iloilo City with John Nico Galos leading the way with 16 points, while Guimaras eked out an 80-78 win over Antique with Skyrus Occena top-scoring with 21 markers.
The two-day invitational basketball pocket tournament aims to showcase the developing sports program of Guimaras, said tournament organizer Richard Gabayoyo./PN
