Aklan guv, mayors get first dose of vaccine vs COVID

KALIBO, Aklan – Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores and 10 municipal mayors received their first doses of CoronaVac vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on May 2 at the ABL Sports Complex.

The local chief executives were classified under Priority Group A1 by the Department of Health as high-risk individuals.

They are expected to get their second doses on May 31.

“Magpabakuna tayo pag dumating ang mga vaccines,” Miraflores urged Aklanons.

The 10 vaccinated mayors were Tangalan’s Gary Fuentes, Ibajay’s Jose Enrique Miraflores, Makato’s Abencio Torres, Altavas’ Denny Refol Jr., Batan’s Rodell Ramos, Libcao’s Charito Navarosa, Lezo’s Mary Lenette Fernandez, Nabas’ James Solanoy, Madalag’s Alfonso Gubatina, and Numancia’s Jeserel Templonuevo.

New Washington town’s Mayor Shimonette Francisco received her first dose in her municipality also on May 3.

The mayors of Kalibo, Balete, Malinao, Buruanga, and Banga will be inoculated in their respective vaccination rollout centers.

Malay acting town mayor Frolibar Bautista was scheduled to get his first dose yesterday.

Provincial Health Officer I Dr.  Leslie Ann Luces said there would be a simultaneous rollout of vaccines in the municipalities this week to reach at least 70 percent of the A1 priority group (frontliners).

Meanwhile, senior citizens aged 60 years old and above belonging to the A2 category (elderly and those with comorbidities) were advised to register before May 6 for their first doses.

Aklan had on May 2 received 10,100 doses of CoronaVac vaccines from the Department of Health./PN
