KALIBO, Aklan – As June marks the “Dengue Awareness” month, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution urging residents, barangay and municipal officials, school authorities, clergy, and market administrators to pursue heightened awareness campaign for dengue prevention.
SP members Nelson Santamaria, Lillian Tirol and Jay Tejada sponsored the resolution that seeks to remind the public of prevention tips against dengue as rainy season is about to come.
According to the Aklan Provincial Health Office (PHO), a total of 982 dengue cases were reported from Jan. 1 to May 25 this year. The recorded cases were 47% higher to the same period last year.
Santamaria warned the public to be more vigilant as the number of dengue cases in the province continue to rise. PHO already recorded nine deaths out of those afflicted during the same period.
Gov. Florencio Joeben Miraflores meanwhile issued the Memorandum No. 2019 – 083 requesting government agencies and local government units to conduct regular cleanup drive as part of the intensified campaign against dengue. (With a report from Janica Anne Dela Pena/PN
