KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan was classified a low-risk area based on two weeks (May 17 to May 30) of infection growth rate and average daily attack rate per 100,000 population of 3.06 percent, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.
Notably, Aklan improved its average daily attack rate from 4.64 percent (May 3 to May 16) to 3.06 percent.
The number of cases in Aklan also decreased from 397 (May 3 to May 16) to 262 (May 17 to May 30), down by 34 percent.
The province also registered 34.21 percent beds utilization rate.
Only 27 percent or 13 COVID ward beds in Aklan were occupied, while 43.48 percent or 10 intensive care units beds and 37.21 percent or 16 isolation beds were utilized.
Aklan also recorded 23 percent utilization rate of its isolation and quarantine facilities.
DOH reported 28 patients in Aklan were critically admitted in hospitals while five patients had mild/moderate and severe symptoms.
For the contact tracing report, the province also traced 92.87 percent of 2,287 confirmed cases, while 9,090 closed contacts were listed.
Of those listed, 8,974 were traced and assessed or 98.72 percent.
Molecular laboratories tested 6,822 closed contacts in Aklan with 1,319 positive results in reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test and 159 in rapid diagnostics test.
There was clustering of cases (morbidity week 21-22) also in the towns of Kalibo (71), Banga (44), Balete (27), Malay (22), Altavas (20), Makato (17), Nabas (14), and New Washington and Numancia with 12 cases each.
The towns of Balete, Altavas and Banga, however, were classified as high risk areas.
WV SITUATION
DOH-6 Medical Officer IV Dr. Bea Camille Natalaray said the positivity rate continues to increase in the region, indicating increased COVID-19 transmission.
Local governments are also urged to impose localized lockdowns and strengthen border control.
“The healthcare utilization rate is also increasing. Some areas showed high to critical risk utilization of COVID wards, Intensive Care Unit and isolation beds. The province of Guimaras is in critical risk, while high risk for Capiz and Iloilo City,” she stressed.
Western Visayas logged 46,513 cases with 454 new cases and 123 recoveries as of May 30.
Of the positive cases, 95.3 percent were mild and asymptomatic and 4.65 percent were moderate, severe or critical.
The average cases per day for the month of May tallied at 371 as compared to 261 in April and 84 in March.
Bacolod City and Iloilo City were classified high-risk areas with average daily attack rate of 10.98 percent and 14.11 percent, respectively, while Negros Occidental was classified a low-risk area with 2.88 percent.
The rest of provinces in Western Visayas – Capiz (3.98), Iloilo (3.05), Guimaras (3.06), Antique (2.58) were classified as moderate-risk areas./PN
