KALIBO, Aklan – The registration for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination of pediatric age group 5 to 11 years old is ongoing in the province of Aklan.

Health authorities have encouraged parents and guardians to register through the online registration platform of the Provincial Health Office-Aklan. Registrants must include the valid government identification documents or birth registration numbers of the minors. Parents should accompany their children during their vaccination with their informed consent. They should get medical clearance from a physician if their child has comorbidities.

Pfizer vaccines will be used among children aged five to 11 during the vaccination rollout.

Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Jr. said the expansion of pediatric vaccination will protect the children who are also considered vulnerable to Covid-19 infections.

The pediatric vaccination will start in Aklan this February after the COVID-19 vaccination pilot testing for children in Metro Manila.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 is targeting to administer vaccines to around 15.56 million individuals belonging to five to 11 years old.

Meanwhile, a total of 54,184 individuals under the 11-17 age group, or 93.55 percent had received their first doses of Covid-19 vaccines in Aklan, while 43,720 individuals or 74.08 percent were fully vaccinated as of January 31, 2022.

So far,  80 patients infected with COVID-19 are admitted to hospitals in Kalibo, Aklan, which is 12.69 percent of the active cases./PN
