Aklan pins tourism hopes on setting up virus testing center

KALIBO, Aklan – The provincial government is currently preparing for the reopening of tourism industry in the province.

Gov. Florencio Miraflores said part of these preparations is the establishment of a testing center for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Miraflores revealed that the construction for the testing facility at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in this capital town is now underway.

“We wanted Boracay Island to be considered free from COVID-19, thus, there is a need for a testing facility in this province,” said Miraflores.
He added that the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction machine this province commissioned has already arrived.
The provincial government, according to Miraflores, is currently coordinating with the Department of Health for the accreditation of the COVID-19 testing center.
On Tuesday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) considers re-opening the world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town for domestic tourists.

Based on IATF-EID’s Resolution No. 40 issued on May 27, this province would be under modified general community quarantine starting June 1 until June 15./PN
