KALIBO, Aklan – Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital are now 93 percent utilized, according to Gov. Florencio Miraflores.
This, he stressed, highlighted the seriousness of the current situation – surge in COVID-19 cases.
In the COVID wards, on the other hand, there are five beds left out of 72 beds, added the governor.
“This is the first time since the pandemic started that our ICU beds are fully occupied,” said Miraflores.
The provincial hospital added five more beds to boost its ICU capacity.
Aklan is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and may revert to the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine.
“This is a critical time and a serious problem for all of us. The public, barangay and town officials have to cooperate and strictly follow the minimum health protocols,” said Miraflores.
