Aklan remains COVID-19 high risk province

KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan remains under the high-risk classification for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH CHD).

The average daily attack rate per 100,000 populations from January 14 to 27 had been reported at 15.25 percent, up from 9.06 percent in the previous three to four weeks (December 31 to January 13).

The two-week growth rate also showed a positive increase of 525 cases or 68 percent in recent weeks. The case count jumped from 768 to 1,293 for the recent week.

The health care utilization rate of Aklan is at low risk with total bed utilization of 30.60 percent as of January 30. Intensive care unit admissions showed 22.86 percent capacity while COVID ward beds at 28.42 percent utilized and isolation beds at 53.85 percent occupied.

Patients admitted in hospitals had mild and severe symptoms, the health department said.

The health systems capacity in the region remains to be under 60 percent utilization.

As for Covid-19 deaths, the province of Aklan reported a case fatality rate of 1.37 percent, which is the lowest in the region. The region’s case fatality rate is recorded at 2.78 percent and the national CFR at 1.57 percent.

Capiz and Guimaras provinces are also tagged as high risk while Iloilo, Antique, Negros Occidental, and the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod are under critical risk classification. /PN
