KALIBO, Aklan – Provincial Board members were pushing for the creation of a task force that will promote road safety in Aklan.

A proposed ordinance at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan aims to institute policies on road accident prevention and road safety practices and awareness.

The measure seeks to establish a mechanism in carrying out local and national traffic rules and regulations.

To be headed by Gov. Florencio Miraflores, the task force shall comprise government officials and private sector representatives.

Moreover, the proposed ordinance pushes for the establishment of “30 kph (kilometers per hour) zones,” school crossing patrol, pedestrian crossing lanes, and public utility vehicle stops.

Board members Jay E. Tejada and Nemesio P. Neron, proponents of the measure, were confident their proposal will be passed on third and final reading in the next Sangguniang Panlalawigan session.

Tejada and Neron said they aim to lower the number of road accidents in the province particularly by educating motorists. (PNA)
