Aklan roads prepared for Ati-Atihan 2019

KALIBO, Aklan – Thousands of foreign and local tourists are flocking this capital town for the 2019 Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aklan District Engineering Office has made sure that major roads are capable of taking on a huge volume of traffic.

District Engineer Noel Fuentebella said they have completed the asphalt overlay of 4.819 kilometers of road and re-blocking of 1.666 kilometers of road along Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue from Kalibo to New Washington in the amount of P44.800 million and P18.619 million, respectively.

These roads lead to the Port of Dumaguit in the town of New Washington.

The project included installation of warning signs and application of thermoplastic pavement markings for safety of the motorists and traveling public.

Likewise, the Aklan District Engineering Office installed safety devices along the Aklan West Road in the town of Malay leading to the newly re-opened Boracay Island.

The project, in the amount of P6.064 million, involved installation of guardrails including posts and chevron signage.

Fuentebella also said Kalibo Bridges were now fully lighted while thermoplastic pavement markings and repainting of curbs and gutters were also applied along the Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue which serves as main thoroughfare to Kalibo International Airport.

Meanwhile, Assistant District Engineer Leo Bionat said they have geared up in undertaking maintenance activities along major roads in the town of Kalibo in Aklan.

“Our maintenance team has patched potholes, sealing cracks and de-clogging of canals along national roads, particularly in Poblacion areas,” he said. (DPWH-6/PN)
