KALIBO, Aklan – The COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent vaccine is now available for healthcare workers and the most vulnerable population in the province.

The limited allocation is given as a third booster dose for A1 (healthcare workers) and A2 (senior citizens) at least four to six months after the second dose.

The booster dose is available at Gaisano Capital Kalibo from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO)-Aklan.

In a statement, the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas Center for Health Development will advise the public once the bivalent vaccine is available for the rest of the eligible population.

Bivalent vaccines could protect against two virus strains of Omicron subvariants and the original COVID-19 strain.

PHO-Aklan urged the elderly and healthcare workers to get inoculated with the bivalent vaccine, which is given for free.

Last month, the government of Lithuania donated more than 391,000 doses of Comirnaty Pfizer-BioNTech-adapted bivalent vaccines to the Philippines through the World Health Organization-led COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access facility.

Data from DOH showed at least 78 million Filipinos are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 23.8 million have received at least one booster dose./PN
