BORACAY – The provincial government of Aklan has reverted to its entry restrictions applied prior to January 9, 2022. This means fully vaccinated travelers to Boracay Island are exempted from test requirements.
Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores issued Executive Order No. 001-A on February 1, 2022, as domestic travel is about getting easier for tourists.
People who can present vaccination certificates issued by the World Health Organization, Department of Health, and local government units are exempt from test requirements when traveling to Boracay Island.
Travelers who are not fully vaccinated or partially vaccinated are required to undergo Covid-19 tests using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) taken 72 hours prior to entry to Boracay Island.
Minors below 12 years old will no longer need to show proof of negative coronavirus test.
The new entry requirements also scrapped the testing requirements for returning Aklanons and travelers, who can present proof of vaccination.
Boracay drew 941,848 visitors in 2018 and 2,034,599 tourists in 2019, but the Covid-19 pandemic battered the tourism and travel sector.
On Monday, Malay Chief
Tourism Operations Officer Felix Delos Santos said they are ready to welcome tourists to the island following the new entry requirements.
More than 107 percent of the eligible population in Malay, Aklan has been vaccinated at least one dose against the coronavirus./PN
