KALIBO, Aklan – To date, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has placed the province of Aklan under the “green category” ahead of the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).

The poll body has adopted color coding in classifying election hotspots – green, yellow, orange or red.

“Green category” refers to areas with no election concerns, that are peaceful, and where the situation is stable.

As of this writing, no poll-related violence had been recorded, according to Aklan Comelec spokesperson Chrispin Raymund Gerardo.

Nakipagpulong tayo sa ating mga kapulisan at sundalo upang siguraduhin ang matiwasay, malinis at patas na halalan,” said Gerardo.

The Comelec officer also urged the candidates not to engage in premature campaigning. The official campaign period will start on Oct. 19.

Dapat responsable ang mga kandidato, kanilang pamilya at supporters sa nalalapit na eleksyon,” he said.

Meanwhile, no disqualification cases were filed against any of the candidates.

The manual elections set for Oct. 30 will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in clustered precincts in the province’s 17 municipalities./PN
