Aklan vaccinates inmates

KALIBO, Aklan – So far, 140 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in Aklan have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

They were detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Aklan District Jail Male Dormitory and Female Dormitory.

The PDLs, including eight from the female dormitory, received their first dose on Oct. 8 and their second dose on Nov. 3.

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were administered by volunteers of the Philippine Red Cross – Aklan Chapter.

Almost all BJMP staff in Barangay Nalook, Kalibo, Aklan were already vaccinated.

BJMP has been pressing local government units to prioritize PDLs, too, in the vaccination.

Since the start of the pandemic in March last year, BJMP implemented mandated health guidelines to protect PDLs and jail personnel .

In-person visitation in jails has also been prohibited./PN
