Aklanon PMA grad to join Philippine Army

KALIBO, Aklan – The daughter of a farmer from Barangay Kinalangay Viejo in Malinao, Aklan is one of the upcoming graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Masaligan Class 2021.

Cadet 1st Class Mae Pearl Alarcon Agustin will be joining the Philippine Army as her branch of service after the graduation rites on May 10 in Baguio City.

The 25-year-old would-be Army officer will receive the Military Justice Award for having the highest rating in all Military Law subjects.

According to her father Elmo, Mae Pearl decided to enter the PMA to fulfill her dream of becoming a soldier.

He was proud of her daughter’s achievements, said Elmo.

Agustin graduated cum laude (Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education – Major in English) at the Aklan Catholic College in Kalibo before entering the county’s prime military institution.  

“I am seeing my myself as someone who will touch lives and inspire every citizen of our country,” she said.

Agustin, a Brigade Mess Officer, is a Dean’s Lister.

She is also a member of Chess Corps Squad, Peer Counsellng Group, Sword Board, and Staff and Social Responsibility Committee.  

Class Masaligan (MANdirigmang SAmahan na Lakas at SandIGAN ng Bayan) has 164 members. Forty-six graduates will join the Philippine Navy; 82 will be part of Philippine Army; and 36 will join the Philippine Air Force.

This year’s batch has one of the highest number of women graduates (26).
