MANILA – Tanduay Alab Pilipinas rode on the hot hands of Justin Brownlee to score 92-87 over CLS Knights of Indonesia in the ASEAN Basketball League at the GOR CLS Kertajaya in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Brownlee finished with 36 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals, as Alab (5-3) tallied its second straight win.
Renaldo Balkman posted double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds while Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Joshua Urbiztondo added 14 and 11, respectively, for Alab on Saturday night.
Brian Williams scored 22 with 14 rebounds while veterans Sandy Kurniawan and Mario Wuysang had 19 and 17, respectively, for Knights (1-7).
Alab pulled to a 15-8 start on hits by Brownlee and Urbiztondo. Knights managed to trim the deficit 11-15 but Alab raised the lead anew 29-15 on Brownlee and Balkman conversions.
Knights came to within 4 points early in the second but Alab surged 36-27 on baskets by Parks. Knights had another rally for a 42-40 edge but Alab had 6 straight from Brownlee for a 48-44 halftime lead.
The third was a seesaw battle. Knights tasted the lead several times but Alab rallied back to tie the count 67-all. A Brownlee hit gave Alab a 69-67 lead heading into the fourth.
Holding to a 73-71 lead, Alab went on a 12-2 run behind Dondon Hontiveros for an 85-73 edge. Knights had its last push to come close 86-90 but free throws sealed Alab’s victory./PN
