MANILA – San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas exacted its revenge on Westport Malaysian Dragons with an 85-47 domination in the 2018-2019 ASEAN Basketball League on Friday night at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna.
Peter John Ramos led the way with double-double 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Renaldo Balkman and Bacolodnon Pao Javelona added 13 and 11 markers, respectively, for Alab (9-2).
The lopsided victory also served as the defending champions’ revenge on the Dragons after the latter dealt the Philippines-based squad a 72-71 defeat on January 9 at Malaysia.
Both teams have a tight start with the score still tied at 12-all but the Philippines relied on inside hits by Ramos for a 21-13 lead. Balkman and Javelona did their share as the lead went up to 37-20 at the half.
Ramos continued to pound his way inside for the Philippines representatives to increase the advantage further to 67-38 before tallying its biggest advantage at 80-42 on a layup by Rashleigh Rivero.
Winston Sheperd led the way with 12 points and five rebounds, while Chris Eversley chipped in 10 markers for the Dragons, which slid down to 5-6 win-loss slate.
The Jimmy Alapag-mentored Alab Pilipinas will just have a one-day break before plunging back to action against the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions tonight at the same venue./PN
