MANILA â Tanduay Alab Pilipinas vented its ire on Mono Vampire Thailand in the 2018 ASEAN Basketball League at Stadium 29 in Bangkok.
The 114-87 victory allowed Alab to recover from a stunning defeat to Singapore Slingers last Wednesday and improve to a 4-4 win-loss record.
Justin Brownlee led the Philippines with 29 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the Sunday night game.
Bobby Ray Parks Jr. chipped in with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Joshua Urbiztondo had 17, while Renaldo Balkman and John Murphy Raymundo had 14 and 10, respectively.
Alab had a strong start for a 20-9 lead on 3-point hits by Brownlee and Paul Rico Maierhofer. Mono Vampire came to within 14-20 but Alab pulled away anew for a 32-22 lead on hits by Balkman and Lawrence Domingo.
The Philippines pulled away further in the second frame on triples from Urbiztondo and inside baskets from Balkman, Brownlee and Paolo Javelona to build a 54-37 halftime edge.
Alab broke the game wide open further in the second half, with Brownlee and Parks hitting outside shots. They built their largest lead in the match 104-71 on a Brownlee inside basket.
âJust really happy with what (Brownlee and Balkman) brought to the team. [Beyond] their skill set, they are great people, and it resonated with the whole team,â said Alab head coach Jimmy Alapag.
Michael Singletary finished with double-double 24 points and 11 rebounds, Filipino Paul Zamar added 20 markers, while 7-foot-5 import Samuel Deguera had 17 points for Thailand, which dropped to 5-4./PN
