Alaska’s Jeron Teng, ex-Green Archers pals attacked

MANILA – Alaska Aces rookie Jeron Teng and Rain or Shine Elasto Painters center Norbert Torres were attacked by a group of men early Sunday in Taguig City.

Teng sustained stab wounds on the ribs, shoulder and hand while Norbert Torres had bruises, a police report showed.

Others injured were their former De La Salle University Green Archers teammates Thomas Torres, who was stabbed on the arm, and Lorenzo Navarro, who had bruises as well.

Prior to the incident, Teng was with Norbert Torres, Thomas Torres and Navarro at the Early Night Bar in Taguig.

Teng’s girlfriend Jeanine Tsoi was with them, too, police report stated.

In the bar, Teng confronted a group of men who allegedly insulted Tsoi.

Afterwards, while Teng and company were at the parking lot of the bar, the group of men attacked them, police said.

All the injured were taken to the St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City where they were recovering as of this writing.

The three suspects – Filipino-American Edmar Manalo, 40, Joseph Varona Luke, 33, and Willard Basili Lim, 38 – have been arrested.

At the time Teng just came from Aces’ 109-103 win over GlobalPort Batang Pier in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum where he scored 8 points in 22 minutes.

Norbert Torres, on the other hand, likewise came from Painters’ 99-96 overtime victory against Magnolia Hotshots where he chipped in 5 points in 17 minutes of action.

Thomas Torres, whom Hotshots drafted during the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft, was set to see action for the Mandaluyong team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League./PN
