MANILA – Aldin Ayo is making a coaching return with the Basilan BRT Peace Riders in the Chooks To Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup second conference which will begin this Nov. 20 in Pagadian City.
Ayo, a one-time NCAA and UAAP champion coach with Letran and De La Salle University, will serve as active coaching consultant to Peace Riders head coach Jinno Manansala.
This is Ayo’s first indoor basketball bench role since stepping down as the head coach of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers last year in the aftermath of the controversial “Sorsogon bubble.”
“I am very much thankful to Basilan for this opportunity na makabalik sa coaching. It has been a while since I was able to return sa indoor basketball,” said the Sorsogon native.
Ayo serve as head coach to the Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3×3 men’s basketball team and will also call the shots for Bicol Volcanoes if the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Invitational pushes through next month.
Peace Riders owner Mayor Julz Hataman said he is optimistic of the team’s chances to repeat as VisMin Super Cup champions with the tandem of Ayo and Manansala at the helm.
“With coach Aldin and coach Ji leading the team, I am optimistic of our chances to repeat,” Hataman told Panay News. “There is no better way to repeat than to have them as our coaches and coach Ayo’s ‘Mayhem’ as our system.”
“I have seen how effective that system of coach Ayo’s Mayhem when he was still with Letran, DLSU and UST. We want that success here in Basilan Peace Riders,” he added.
Also part of the Peace Riders coaching staff are UST Tiger Cubs head coach McJour Luib, Jude Paulite, Ron Jalmanzar, Nikko Bermido and Jinno’s father Jimmy Manansala./PN
