Alexia Brooks bags 2 golds in Ilagan athletics

MANILA – Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks bagged another gold after ruling the girls heptathlon event of the 2018 Philippine Athletics Championships at the Ilagan City Sports Complex in Isabela province.

Representing Ateneo de Manila University, the Leon, Iloilo native Brooks beat rival Evangeline Caminong of Dasmariñas City and Vinia Mistales of Ateneo.

Prior to the heptathlon, Brooks also finished first in individual high jump with 1.65m. Caminog ended the competition on second place with 1.60.

“I am just happy and blessed right now,” Brooks told Panay News. “I just want to thank everyone who supported and prayed for my success. Indeed it’s a great honor for me competing here.”

Brooks edged out Caminong in 100m hurdles with 16.59 seconds, compared to latter’s 16.70, in shot put (8.20 m to 7.63 m) and 200m dash (27.36 seconds to 27.76 seconds).

Caminong, who lost to Brooks several times in various competitions, defeated the Ilongga in high jump (1.71 m to 1.68 m), long jump (5.44 to 5.00) and javelin throw (30.91 m to 28.10 m).
