ILOILO City – Councilor Joshua Alim may run for congressman but as an independent candidate in next year’s election.
He told Panay News “may posibilidad” (it’s a possibility) when asked about speculations he would be seeking a higher elective post.
“I’m studying it. I’m praying for clarity. It’s a possibility,” said the radio broad-caster-turned politician.
Should he decide to seek a higher position, he said, he would run under no political party.
“My political career is not dependent sa mga dalagko nga pulitiko. I started in 1995 as an independent, ti ginsakdag sang tawo,” said Alim who was a popular anchorman of DyFM Bombo Radyo Iloilo prior to entering politics.
In the 2016 election he ran for councilor under the United Nationalist Alliance of then Vice President Jejomar Binay.
Alim took exception to a recent statement of Cong. Jerry Treñas that seemed to belittle him.
In an interview, Treñas – a “graduating” three-termer congressman planning for run for city mayor – was asked about his possible candidates for congressman. He mentioned Alim: “Bisan amo lang na si Joshua, pwede man na sya.”
Alim said he and Treñas were clearly different.
“He is rich while I am poor. He is a lawyer of PECO (Panay Electric Company) while I lawyered for complaining PECO consumers,” said Alim.
The councilor also said while he and Councilor Plaridel Nava denounced illegal drugs and corruption at city hall, Treñas did nothing and remained silent on these problems./PN
