ILOILO – The local government unit (LGU) of Alimodian is set to let go some of its job hire employees to free up funds for the procurement of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines.
Mayor Geefre “Calay” Alonsabe said retrenchment is part of a larger recovery plan as the municipal government starts looking for funds to procure COVID-19 vaccines.
“Damo ang nangin job hire ko kang last year tungod sang COVID-19 pandemic. Kadaku sang kwarta nga nagakadto sa amon job hires,” Alonsabe explained.
Now that the town has gradually tamed the spread of the viral illness, Alonsabe said they needed to reduce manpower.
“I informed our job hires nga ma-trim down na ang LGU. Kasubo man tani ugaling napa-intindi ko man sa ila nga at this time daw indi na kaya sang LGU unlike last year may ara sang Bayanihan grant and support from the provincial government,” Alonsabe said.
However, the mayor will be retaining job hires with crucial roles such as those assigned at quarantine facilities, COVID Command Center and those dealing with locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
Alonsabe further said the money that will be saved by the LGU will be intended for the town’s continuing response to the pandemic.
“Kon may ara available na nga vaccine of course prayoridad man sang LGU nga mag-apropar sang kwarta bangod nakita naton nga amo man siguro ang makahagan-hagan sang kaso kag maproteksyonan ang ikayong lawas sang aton pumoluyo diri sa Alimodian,” Alonsabe said.
The mayor as of now could not identify who would be the town’s top priority for the inoculation.
As of Jan. 11, Alimodian had a total of 58 confirmed COVID-19 – six of which were active, 50 are recovered and two died./PN
