KALIBO, Aklan – Not one municipality in Aklan is exempted from drug affectation, the provincial police said.
All 17 barangays in Malay, including the three barangays in Boracay Island (Manoc-manoc, Yapak and Balabag) are affected, data from the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) showed.
In this capital town and the adjacent Numancia, all but one barangay are drug-infested. Kalibo has 16 barangays, while Numancia has 17.
Aside from these towns, New Washington also registered a high rate of drug affectation with 87 percent, the APPO said.
Nabas followed with 85 percent; Altavas, 78 percent; Lezo, 75 percent; Balete and Banga, 70 percent; Nabas, 66 percent; Batan, 65 percent; Makato, 61 percent; Malinao, 56 percent; Buruanga, 53 percent; Ibajay, 48 percent; and Madalag, 40 percent.
Libacao registered only one drug-affected barangay out of its 24 villages, the APPO said.
Overall, 210 (64.22 percent) of the 327 barangays in the province are drug-infested.
From 97 during the 2016 first-quarter validation, the number increased when the Philippine National Police launched an intensified antidrug campaign dubbed Oplan Double Barrel.
The drug affectation data were released during the signing of the antidrug campaign covenant at Camp Pastor Martelino in Barangay New Buswang.
Local government and police officials, religious and civic groups, and nongovernment organizations participated.
Gov. Florencio Miraflores and the APPO acting director Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili led the signing on Monday. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
