CAPIZ – The municipality of Maayon in this province is celebrating its annual Hil-o Hil-o Festival, which kicks off today, Jan. 23, and will run until Jan. 30.
Mayor Raymon D. Malapajo expressed his excitement about the activities lined up, emphasizing that it is an opportunity for the community to come together.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate the Hil-o Hil-o Festival as well as the municipal and religious fiesta of Maayon as a thanksgiving to the bountiful harvest from the blessings of the Almighty for the town and the lives of every Maayonanon,” Malapajo said.
Pre-fiesta activities began on Jan. 20, wherein candidates for the “Lin-ay sang Maayon” were presented.
While many traditional activities will be part of the celebration, Mayor Malapajo also teased some new events that will add to the excitement, attracting more visitors.
Highlights include performances by popular bands such as Lily (formerly known as Callalily), Paraluman, Shamrock, and December Avenue.
Numerous activities are lined up for the festival, including parades, cultural exhibitions, job fairs, and entertainment nights. Visitors are invited to experience the Maayon Food Festival, where they can savor native delicacies and other local foods at the town’s public plaza.
“Puto sa Tuba” slow food workshop, showcasing a special recipe from the agricultural municipality at the Maayon Civic Center, will be on Jan. 24.
The longest “Agro-Fair” will offer agricultural products at affordable prices, reflecting the town’s abundant blessings.
A much-anticipated event, the “Sadsad” dance parade, will showcase the town’s rich culture and artistry.
“Sadsad is held on the major streets of the town, with dance rhythms showcasing our rich culture and unique artistry,” added Malapajo, highlighting the importance of coming together as a community, especially considering the challenges posed by the pandemic in previous celebrations.
The festivities will culminate with stunning fireworks displays on Jan. 24 and 30 that promise to captivate spectators from near and far./PN
