MAMBUSAO, Capiz – A young man who claimed to be a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the municipal police station here.
“Nakapoy na gid ko sang kabuhi sa kabukiran kag sagay palagyo sa pwersa sang gobyerno,” he said.
According to Mambusao police chief Major Edwin Luces, he received a phone call from an alias “Mak” on Feb. 20 informing him that a certain alleged member of the NPA wanted to voluntarily surrender and avail himself of the government’s integration program.
The young man turned himself in to the police around 8 p.m. on Feb. 21.
The surrenderer was a 20-year-old resident of Barangay San Juan, Jamindan, Capiz. He claimed to be the designated Squad Supply Officer of the NPA’s Baloy Unit under the Jose Percival Estocada Jr. Command.
The surrenderer further claimed many members of his family joined the NPA and that one of his siblings previously surrendered to the Jamindan municipal police station.
According to the young man, an elder brother and his parents are still active NPA rebels.
The police turned him over to the military for validation and documentation./PN
