ILOILO City â Almost half a million pesos went up in smoke when fires hit two houses in Mandurriao and Lapuz districts.
The fires occurred hours after the opening salvo of the 2018 Dinagyang Festival on Friday.
In Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, the blaze ate up the house of couple Manolito and Jennifer Manalon at around 6:35 p.m.
It was not immediately clear as of this writing what caused the fire but initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) showed the blaze started from the inside the house.
Firefighters put the fire âunder controlâ at around 7:09 p.m. They estimated the cost of damage at P300,000.
Another fire broke out at around 1:33 a.m. on Saturday in Block 2, Barangay Sinikway, Lapuz.
The two-story concrete house of couple Zaldy and Helen Tupaz was partially damaged.
The fire started at their stockroom, a BFP incident report showed.
Investigators estimated the cost of damage at P150,000. They have yet to determine the cause as of this writing.
Firefighters put the blaze âunder controlâ at around 1:46 a.m. and declared âfire outâ at around 1:51 a.m.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the two fires./PN
