ALTAVAS, Aklan – Councilpersons in Barangay Dalipdip helped teach the locals how to better protect their environment and natural resources.

With the assistance of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, they conducted an Action Planning on Environmental Protection recently.

They focused on local policies on regulatory procedures for lumber and charcoal production and transport.

They also discussed the implementation of Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

Moreover the locals came up with plans on solid waste management, household sanitation, information drive, and environment-related activities, including tree-planting and cleanup campaigns.

“The positive cooperation the residents have shown was very overwhelming,” Department of Environment and Natural Resources regional director Jim O Sampulna said, citing it was a good start for similar activities in Aklan.

Sampulna said the activity aims to help the locals become “more knowledgeable on how to preserve and protect their local environment [and] natural resources” and “prepare to face disasters that may hit their area.”

Dalipdip was one of the severely affected communities in the town during super typhoon “Yolanda” in 2013. (With DENR/PN)
