BACOLOD City – An ambulance rushing a victim of a vehicular accident to a hospital crashed against a motorcycle along the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in Barangay Matab-an, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The motorcycle driver, 65-year-old Ricardo Miago of Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, died in the Wednesday night accident while his passenger was seriously injured.
The passenger was 43-year-old Mildrer Sarmiento, a resident of Hacienda Paison, Barangay Hawaiian, Silay City.
According to Police Master Sergeant Jade Dela Cruz, traffic investigator of the Talisay City police station, the ambulance driven by Warlito Bascones originated from the city’s mountainous area and was transporting to the Talisay City Health Center a patient who was also a victim of a vehicular accident.
Upon reaching the intersection of the airport access road, the ambulance initially collided with a red Toyota Innova driven by 43-year-old Jonel Suco.
Miago saw the initial collision and tried to accelerate his motorcycle in a bid to avoid the crash but his motorcycle was hit by the out-of-control ambulance.
The strength of the collision flipped the ambulance to its left side.
Miago died while being rushed to the Talisay City Health Center.
Sarmiento, meanwhile, was brought to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital for treatment.
The ambulance’s patient, meanwhile, did not suffer additional injuries from the second accident and was later discharged.
