BACOLOD City — The official of Kapatiran para sa Progresong Panlipunan who was ambushed by about 12 armed men in Sitio Cubay, Barangay Locutan, Kabankalan City on Aug. 30 is now in stable condition, said Kabankalan police chief Superintendent Salvador Dagoon.

Victorino Sumulong, spokesperson for Kapatiran , said Giovanni Banista also known as “Ka Amor” is recuperating after undergoing an operation for the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained.

Banista is a kagawad of Barangay Locutan and the commanding officer of Kapatiran, the former revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade.

Sumulong said the New People’s Army (NPA) was responsible for the ambush.

Empty shells of M-16 armalite rifle, AK 47 assault rifle and, 45 caliber pistols were recovered from the crime scene.

Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, helped bring Banista and Ka Malvar, who was killed by the NPA, to the peace table in southern Negros.

Aying said Banista has been marked for liquidation by the NPA for 15 years.

“They (NPA) think that killing people will make them win the war,” Aying said.

He added the attempt to kill Banista will have an effect on the ongoing closure of the peace agreement between the RPA-ABB and the government./PN
