MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign spokesperson Peter Laviña has resigned from his post as National Irrigation Authority administrator.

“To spare the President from these embarrassing stories, particularly in these times of intensified attacks on him, I have quietly left government,” Laviña announced on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

Duterte appointed Laviña, a former Davao City councilor, as head of the NIA in November last year.

He also denied allegations that he asked money from NIA contractors.

“I have neither personal vested interest in it nor ill intent towards NIA and the whole government, which we are trying to reform,” according to him.

Meanwhile, the former spokesperson thanked Duterte for the opportunity to serve under his administration.

Laviña also promised to continue serving for the “common good” in his capacity as private citizen.

“May the Lord continue to light our paths. God bless us all. This is your water boy, signing off!”/PN
