Amistads, DPWH now 4-0 in Pintados basketball tilt

PASSI City, Iloilo – Amistads/TEJ Builders stretched its winning streak in the 1st Pintados de Pasi Invitational Open Basketball Tournament after a thrilling 74-72 triumph over Hercor College Jaguars at the City of Passi Arena here on March 5.

Jayjay Guanzon assumed the hero’s role for Amistads/TEJ Builders following his basket that broke the last deadlock of the game at 72-all. Hercor College had an opportunity to turn the tide into its side, but its last second heave was unsuccessful.

Giann Paul Nahine was hailed as the player of the match with 12 points, two rebounds and a steal for the Amistads/TEJ Builders to improve to a 4-0 win-loss slate. The Jaguars, on the other hand, dropped to 2-2.

In the other match of the tournament, the Department of Public Works and Highways 2nd DEO/J. Cordon/Double J initiated a 103-77 annihilation of the Octonganons (0-4) to tie with Amistads/TEJ Builders on top with a 4-0 card. Felino Arenal Jr. had 19 points, five assists and four rebounds for the victorious team.

XYZ/Toto-Tia-Ten Trucking, meanwhile, recorded its second straight win following a 0-2 start by way of a 100-63 slamming of the Philippine National Police (0-4). Marvin Cuerbo tallied 29 points, six steals, five assists and one block for the winning squad.

Finally, the Guimaras Leopards bounced back from its harrowing defeat at the hands of Amistads/Tej Builders after registering a 97-84 victory over JKG Mamba. Sherwin Diama spearheaded the Leopards’ triumph with 24 points.

According to Commissioner Jorge Serapia, the Pintados de Pasi basketball tournament will take a break this Saturday and Sunday and shall resume with the eliminations clash on March 9./PN
