TESLA, Rivian, Nikola and… Nissan? If talks between the Japanese car manufacturer and Detroit-based startup Hercules Electric Vehicles prove fruitful, the brand might one day be unveiling an electric pickup truck of its own, too.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Nissan is now in talks with Hercules Electric Vehicles regarding the electrification of the Titan full-size pickup. If a deal pushes through, the startup will provide Nissan with an electric powertrain for the Titan. The two companies will also reportedly engage in parts sharing, with the smaller carmaker producing an electric truck of its own.
Equipping the Titan with an electric powertrain would provide buyers with a greener alternative to the model’s gas-guzzling 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400hp and 560Nm. Excited? So are we. It’s important to note, however, that sources say there’s still a possibility that ongoing negotiations may fall apart.
Other major car manufacturers that have invested in electric vehicle startups include Ford and General Motors. The former has already poured $500 million into Rivian, which is already busy with its own electric pickup, while the latter has a deal in place for a $2 billion (P96 billion) stake in Nikola.
