MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. wishes for an improved agriculture sector as he celebrated his 67th birthday Friday last week.

Marcos, who once served as Agriculture chief, said local farmers and their families could have better lives if the agriculture situation in the country will improve.

The Chief Executive spent his birthday at the launch of the Agripuhunan at Pantawid Program and the distribution of Certificates of Condonation in Agriculture and turnover of Agri Credit Assistance in Nueva Ecija.

Agri-Puhunan at Pantawid program is a credit facility that offers low-interest loans, with the aim to help farmers access necessary funds for their agricultural needs.

“Birthday wish? Marami ito, na talagang lahat ng bawat magsasaka sa Pilipinas maramdaman itong programang ito,” President Marcos told the media in an ambush interview.

He added: “Lahat po, iyong buong sistema ng agrikultura…ang birthday wish ko mabuo na natin para maganda ang takbo ng sektor ng agrikultura, para gumanda ang buhay ng bawat magsasaka, ng kanilang pamilya, at ng bawat Pilipino.”

The Department of Agriculture said that, together with the Development Bank of the Philippines, it has secured an initial P3-billion funding for the low-interest loans and subsistence allowance for farmers.

Meanwhile, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos greeted her husband, describing him as the “sweetest and kindest soul I’ve ever known.”

“I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished, and through it all, you’ve remained the same tender-hearted, compassionate person who first captured my heart. I love you to the moon and back, and I always will,” Araneta Marcos said./PN
