MANILA â Fast-rising Filipino boxer Jerwin Ancajas will defend his IBF super flyweight belt against Mexican Israel Gonzales on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Bank of America Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
This will be Ancajasâ third defense of the title he won at the expense of Puerto Rican veteran McJoe Arroyo in September 2016 at the Philippine Marine Corp. in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
In an interview with Panay News after achieving his 114-pound limit on Saturday, Ancajas said he is determined to have an impressive showing against Gonzales since this will be his debut fight on American soil.
The Ancajas-Gonzales match, promoted by Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum, will be shown live starting 10 a.m. today at ESPN Channel 5.
The Panabo City, Davao del Norte native will parade an impressive 28-1-1 win-loss-draw record including 19 knockout wins, while Gonzales has a 21-1-0 slate with eight stoppage wins./PN
