BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts clinched the crown in the 14-and-under category of the Gov. Bong Lacson Grassroots Volleyball Tournament on Sunday at the Montalbo Gym here.
Marishka Alexandria Andrada spearheaded the offense to be named Most Valuable Player and Best Setter as the Thunderbolts defeated Elite Talisay in the championship game, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20.
Annicka Zoe Chua was named Best Server, Luchi Vivero as Best Libero, Memielle Letran as 2nd Best Outside Hitter, Zelver Banguiao as 1st Best Middle Blocker, and Kara Feril as Best Opposite Hitter
Also part of the Thunderbolts team are Maria Shannen Bañas, Xadrej Zade Española, Kyana Danisse Cortez, Nicole Getino, Jemimah Jaslyn Calvo, Athena Danielle Magbanua, and Samantha Cañete.
Serving as head coach for the Thunderbolts team is Roemel Taniñas with Jose Montalbo as team manager.
“With coach Roemel, these young ladies are just continuing their preparation and improvement for them to be ready when they are called up for the seniors team,” Montalbo said.
Elite Talisay’s Kristel Mae Mirasol and Sophie Nicole Pamplona, meanwhile, were named as 1st Best Outside Hitter and 2nd Best Middle Blocker, respectively.
The Thunderbolts, however, failed to complete a golden double as they settled for a runner-up finish in the 12-and-under category, losing to Sanjus Cebuana in the gold medal match.
Getting individual citations from Sanjus are Denise Bongo (MVP and 2nd Best Outside Hitter), Avielle Bancale (Best Setter), Melchiara Valera (Best 2nd Middle Blocker), and Chaewon Cabilao (Best Opposite Hitter).
Meanwhile, feted for the Thunderbolts are Chennie Mae Millama (Best Server), Cielo Palabrica (Best Libero), and Mari Cacho (1st Best Outside Hitter), while Tabuelan’s Veniece Mabida bagged the 1st Best Middle Blocker award./PN
