TODAY, Nov. 30, 2020, the entire Filipino nation commemorates the 157th birthday of Gat Andres Bonifacio, the Supremo of the Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan or KKK and the President of the Republika ng mga Tagalog.
Bonifacio showed us an unending and non-compromising love of country. He fought for the Filipinos till the last drop of his blood. His leadership was rooted in the interests and aspirations of his people. He is worthy to be emulated by all Filipinos.
Andres Bonifacio was orphaned at a young age and took the responsibility of taking care of his young siblings. At his young age, he established and headed Katipunan which launched armed revolution against the Spanish conquistadors.
This is worth repeating: Bonifacio bravely fought Spanish colonialism; arousing, organizing and mobilizing the masses to empower them to change the current colonial and feudal system existent in society at the time.
However, in the time of consistent victories in the revolutionariesā side, and the nearing downfall of Spanish domination in the world stage, Bonifacio died an undeserved death in the hands of his power-hungry countrymen. Sad.
Gat Andres showed us that we must do all means to defend our countrymen from oppression and exploitation. If Bonifacio is here with us right now, surely he will be leading the people in calling and working for a better society with a government that adheres to the interests and aspirations of the people.
We must be all like Bonifacio. The youth of today must be educated with the life and sacrifices of Gat Andres so that when the time comes for them to lead this country they will follow the leadership his leadership and abandon the corrupt and inutile kind of governance.
Bonifacio wholeheartedly fought our colonizers. He died for our freedom.
