Angan: Iloilo police ops vs drugs wanting

ILOILO City — Chief Superintendent Josephus Angan is not satisfied with Iloilo city and provincial policemen’s operations against illegal drugs.

They have to “double-time,” the Police Regional Office 6 director stressed.

“They need to intensify their campaign. Their accomplishments are not yet enough,” he said in a radio interview.

To effectively neutralize drug operations, Iloilo policemen must catch high-value targets and seize more illegal drugs, he said.

Ninety-three suspected drug pushers were arrested in 28 operations in this city from January to July this year, data from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) showed.

These were higher compared to the 23 suspected drug pushers arrested in 19 operations in the same period last year.

Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), on the other hand, arrested 125 alleged drug pushers during the seven-month period.

ICPO director Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro and IPPO director Senior Superintendent Cornelio Salinas vowed to work harder against drugs.

Floro directed his six police station chiefs to conduct not less than two successful drug operations per month.

Salinas, on the other hand, gave his municipal police chiefs until the end of the month to clear at least two barangays in their respective areas of illegal drugs.

The two Iloilo police superiors asked for support from the community.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 6 director Paul Ledesma earlier declared all barangays in this city as “drug-affected” due to the presence of suspected pushers and users./PN
