THE General’s Daughter,” Angel Locsin’s long-anticipated return to primetime in a lead role, scored mammoth ratings as it debuted Monday, underlining the actress’ title as local showbiz’s “Action Drama Queen.”
Billed as the “biggest teleserye” of 2019, the Dreamscape production was the No. 1 show in its time slot, with a nationwide rating of 34 percent versus “Onanay’s” 14 percent.
Kantar Media data also show that “The General’s Daughter” registered wide ratings leads in metro (38.3 percent vs. 10.3 percent) and urban (34.4 percent vs. 15.3 percent) territories.
The maiden telecast of “The General’s Daughter” saw Locsin’s character Rhian infiltrating a foreign coast guard ship to rescue Filipino fishermen, who had been detained for fishing in contested waters.
It also introduced Isabelle (Maricel Soriano) and Elai (Arjo Atayde), who helped Rhian recover after her bloody encounter with the foreign forces.
The pilot episode also dominated Twitter trends on Monday night, with many viewers praising Locsin’s performance which, they said, was a remarkable reminder of her being a queen of the genre.
Meanwhile, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” another Dreamscape production that airs before “The General’s Daughter,” remained the undisputed No. 1 show in the country with a nationwide rating of 41.8 percent on Monday. Its rival program, “Cain at Abel,” only garnered 13.6 percent. (ABS-CBN News)
