MAKING the most out of her massive online reach, Anne Curtis once again made a stand against the proposal to lower the minimum age of criminal liability.
Addressing her 11.7 million Instagram followers, Curtis stressed that children who end up causing trouble “are victims of their circumstance and are still young enough to change their ways.”
The “It’s Showtime” host and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador said she instead supports the full and proper implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
“Instead of being penalized, they should have access to proper rehabilitation – where they can be properly cared for to understand what they may have done wrong, learn to change their ways, and be given a second chance at life,” Curtis said in her post, which showed her wearing a shirt that says “children not criminals.”
“I stand with UNICEF as they call on the government to work with child rights defenders and strengthen the juvenile justice system for the sake of all Filipino children.”
Curtis made the statement on Wednesday, noting that the debate on lowering the age of criminal liability is up for talks in the Senate.
