Another Bacolod LGU employee dies of COVID

BACOLOD City – Three city government employees have now died due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The latest was a 59-year-old male street sweeper. He died on Aug. 11, according to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, head of the City Task Force against COVID-19.

Familiaran failed to give more details about the patient but he disclosed that the latter died in a hospital in the city.

The patient was swabbed on Aug. 10 after exhibiting signs and symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever and cough. His test result was released on Aug. 13, two days after he expired.

To recall, a 48-year-old female and a 29-year-old male employees assigned at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) also succumbed to the viral illness.

This prompted Mayor Evelio Leonardia to lock down the Old City Hall and BCGC for disinfection.

The Old City Hall reopened on Aug. 10 while BCGC will open its doors the public on Aug. 18.

For unhampered services, the City Mayor’s Office temporarily moved to the Public Plaza Office.

The City Administrator’s Office, meanwhile, was relocated to the Tourism Satellite Office/Bayanihan Center along Rizal Street.

Leonardia said the city government is intensifying its battle against COVID-19.

He implored everyone to do their share by cooperating with authorities and follow minimum health protocols set by the local government.

“Our individual acts definitely count in this fight,” the mayor said./PN
