BACOLOD City – Another village chief was killed in Negros Island.
The 40-year-old Rhoy Pagapang of Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental was shot dead, a police report showed.
Police said Pagapang was on his way to Barangay Cabcab, Isabela when a lone gunman backed by three other assailants fired at him around 10 a.m. on Monday.
Pagapang sustained a gunshot wound on the head and died on the spot, said Isabela police chief Senior Inspector Randy Babor.
Pagapang was with a village watchman who the police did not identify at the time of the shooting. The watchman was able to flee before the assailants could fire, said the police.
Babor added that his men were still identifying the suspects, who fled on board two motorcycles.
On Aug. 10, Barangay San Agustin, Isabela former village chief Agapito Euroba was also gunned down.
Motorcycle-riding suspects were responsible for Euroba’s death, police said.
But the Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) claimed responsibility over his death through a statement.
In another statement, the NPA also admitted killing Virgilio Masicampo, village chief of Barangay Magsaysay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
NPA spokesman Ka JB Regalado said their forces “successfully imposed death penalties” on Euroba and Masicampo for their “sins” against the masses and the revolutionary movement./PN
