MANILA – Another Filipina domestic worker tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Hong Kong, the city’s health department confirmed Thursday.
The 29-year-old domestic worker is Hong Kong’s 90th case, and the employee of a 60-year-old woman who was the city’s 85th case. Both did not have any travel history during incubation period.
The Filipino was said to have had ‘good past health’ and lived with her employer’s family.
She developed fever on February 16 and consulted the same private doctor on Feb. 20 and 24.
She was admitted to the Ruttonjee Hospital in Wanchai on February 26. Her respiratory sample tested positive for COVID-19, but she is now in stable condition.
Her employer’s husband, son, and another domestic helper are all asymptomatic and have been arranged for quarantine.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong immediately called up the Filipino woman to ascertain her condition.
“She is in good spirits and said she no longer has fever. She added that she is well taken care of, but hospital visits are not allowed given that she is in isolation,” the consulate said.
The Filipino is the second domestic worker reported to have contracted the COVID-19 in Hong Kong.
“The first Filipino COVID-19 patient is scheduled to be released this week, provided her test results remain negative,” the consulate added.
Meanwhile, the lone Filipino quarantined for possible infection of the new strain of virus is healthy and asymptomatic, and will be released tomorrow, the consulate said.
Up to eight Filipinos were quarantined by authorities in Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, which has a total of 91 cases, as of February 26. Some 240,000 Filipinos work in Hong Kong. (ABS-CBN News)
