Another stupid idea

IT REALLY does not come as a surprise that politicians would come up with stupid ideas. It is in fact expected. After all they’re politicians, not really known for possessing high intelligence levels.

Usually this tendency to exhibit stupidity is manifested during the campaign period and the symptoms are: wearing ridiculous outfits i.e. a vest or jacket (hello, we’re in a tropical country), shirts with their names emblazoned on and performing song-and-dance acts on stage when they know very well they can’t do either one.

They also give themselves silly tag names i.e. “Mr. Sharon Cuneta” or “Daang Matuwid”.

And if in a perverted twist of fate they do get elected, they complete the stupidity by coming out with equally stupid pronouncements or proposed laws.

But do not take all of the above as a sweeping statement. There are some politicians who do come up with flashes of brilliance. Sadly most of the time they remain dull.

And then there are a few who are really brilliant that it makes one wonder why they dipped their hands in politics. But these are the exceptional ones and they remain an exception and will never be the norm.

Lately, Sen. Grace Llamanzares a.k.a. Grace Poe came out with an idea and proposal that can only be described as another stupid idea.

As we all know, Metro Manila is in a traffic situation to put it lightly. But really it is a traffic Armageddon with no end in sight. The plan was for granting emergency powers to the President so as to cut corners, red tape and other bureaucracy to solve this traffic situation.

Unfortunately, Sen. Grace Poe, the chairperson of the Senate committee that is supposed to grant this emergency powers to the President, refuses to do so.

Instead she said, “Boracay was closed for six months and rehabilitated without granting the President emergency powers, why not EDSA.

Hello, Boracay is an island while EDSA is the main thoroughfare right smack in the middle of Metro Manila.

And then she proposed that the MRT will add Business Class coaches to their trains plying the EDSA route and charge passengers something between P300 to P200 fare.

Take note that this is the woman who said “tatapusin ko ang inumpisahan ng tatay ko”, her “tatay” being Fernando Poe Jr. or FPJ, famous for playing the role of a “panday” in that movie series “Ang Panday”. FPJ started that role and never got to finish it on the account of his untimely death.

Don’t be surprised if FPJ Productions will launch “Ang Anak ni Panday” starring Sen. Grace Llamanzares a.k.a. Grace Poe.

And then there’s Mar “Daang Matuwid” Roxas. When he was the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government or DILG, a holdup/robbery happened in some of the jewellery stores in SM North EDSA.

The perpetrators of the robbery holdup used hammers purchased from one of the hardware stores in the said mall to break down the glass displays and take away all the expensive jewellery on display.

When Roxas arrived at the scene of the crime and was told that hammers purchased from one of the hardware stores in the mall was used to break down the glass display, he immediately made a pronouncement that henceforth the sale of hammers in malls will be prohibited.

It’s a good thing nobody took him seriously.

And then we have this:

Excerpts from the Oct. 4, 2019 issue of Panay News:

Separate classes for boys, girls sought to curb teenage pregnancy

To curb the increasing number of teenage pregnancy cases in the country, National Youth Commission chairperson Ryan Enriquez is proposing a separate class sections for male and female students in grades 7 to 12.

Enriquez said in a television interview that separate classrooms could be a remedy as many grade school students already have girlfriends and boyfriends.

“Maraming mga grade school pa lang, mag-girlfriend at boyfriend sila dahil magkaklase sila. At kung meron silang activity na magsasama sila sa isang bahay, doon nangyayari, pwedeng maging teenage mother agad-agad,” Enriquez said.

“If boys and girls were assigned to separate class sections; ‘pag project di sila magkasama, kung may pinapagawa ang teacher nila di nila kailangan mag-overnight para matapos ang project,” he added.

This is probably the epitome of stupidity in the same level as banning the sale of hammers because they were used to break down glass displays. But really, what should you expect from a politician i.e. former Provincial Board member of Cavite Ryan Enriquez, recycled as chairperson of the National Youth Commission?

Maybe Ryan Enriquez should also suggest that all students from grades 7 to 12 be spayed and neutered or perhaps a much better idea is to just have a lobotomy on Ryan Enriquez. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com/PN)
