BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) encourages community support for its campaign to avert cases of violence against women and children in the city.
In the first half of 2018, the BCPO recorded 106 cases of these cases.
Of the total number, 35 were cases of violence against women with 13 filed in court, two cleared and 18 solved.
Cases of violence against children totaled to 45 with 34 filed in court, 21 cleared and 18 solved.
Inspector Arlyn Torrendon, head of BCPO’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk, said this year’s cases also involved children in conflict with law (CICL).
A total of 26 cases involving CICL were recorded from January to June this year – four cases were filed in court, one cleared and five solved.
Last year, the number of violence against women and children cases reached 965.
Torrendon said the BCPO continuously conducts its campaign against violence against women and children.
The BCPO holds village dialogues, or pulong-pulong, wherein provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9262 – or The Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 – are discussed among participants.
Other specials laws such as RA 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) and RA 8353 (Anti-Rape Law of 1997) are also discussed during the dialogues.
The BCPO also coordinates with local government units, nongovernment organizations and other stakeholders to strengthen the campaign. (With a report from PIA/PN)
