‘Antidrug drive attracts investors to Antique’

SAN JOSE, Antique – The government’s relentless campaign against illegal drugs enabled this capital town of Antique to entice more investors due to favorable peace and order, says San Jose mayor Elmer Untaran.

“The continuous anti-illegal drugs campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte results in more barangays being declared as drug-cleared,” Untaran said on Tuesday.

He added that currently, only 12 drug-affected barangays were left to be cleared, out of the 28 target barangays.

“This coming August, there will be another five barangays that will be declared drug-free,” Untaran said.

He did not disclose the five villages, however, saying the necessary documents are still being processed with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Antique.

“With more barangays being declared drug-cleared, there had been zero crime rate as reported by the police during major events held in the municipality like the ‘Paskwa sa Banwa’ in December last year and Tiringbanay Festival last April 2019,” Untaran said.

He added the peace and order situation in the municipality has made it more attractive to investors, resulting into more business establishments.

“The construction of the City Mall is about to be finished at the back of the capitol,” Untaran said.

Other establishments now in this municipality were Robinsons Place Antique, Gaisano, City Square, and Unitop.(With a report from PNA/PN)
